Green Packaging Stirs Up the Marketplace
In recent months, we have experienced a significant groundswell of interest in environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional industrial packaging. This coincides with the launch of a range of new green products, borne from extensive research and development programmes that exhibit greatly improved performance features.
Our sales indicate that customers are becoming more receptive to using green packaging than they were a few years ago. One example is Rosewood’s starch-based EcoFlo loosefill where sales are now 5 times greater than that of standard polystyrene chips. Whilst EcoFlo is not a new product, it has been significantly improved in recent years to become a brilliant white, dust and odour free product. Importantly, its performance has been tested, proven and endorsed by the marketplace.
Another environmentally friendly void fill product currently supplied by Rosewood is the Eco2 Air Cushioning System. As 95% of each inflated cushion is air, its main ‘green’ credential is that, after use, it takes up less space in land fill than many other types of dunnage. Two recent product improvements have resulted in the system strengthening its credentials. Firstly, the machine is now even more compact and greater energy efficiency means that it can produce a higher number of airbags (82) per minute than its predecessor. Secondly, Opus Bio, a new biodegradable air bag film, has been recently launched onto the marketplace. The combination of the new machine & film makes this void fill system truly ‘green’.
Opus Bio is high performance film and its puncture resistance and tensile strength are indistinguishable from conventional film. Special additives blended into the resins during the manufacturing process allow the film to safely biodegrade in landfill within 12-14 months. In comparison to bulky dunnage materials, the rolls of film save on space. One 650m Opus Bio roll provides the equivalent volume of voidfill as 12 bags of loosefill chips (one bag being 15cft). The rolls of film are produced in a range of sizes and where customers use a minimum of 3 pallets a month, the film can be pre-printed with a logo and a sales message.
We hope that Opus Bio is a packaging material that can meet both the needs of your business and your company’s environmental aspirations.
