
The outer package is designed to allow a product to be easily handled and to protect the product from impact, shock and stacking compaction. Depending upon the product and method of transportation, outer packaging can be manufactured from 125 kraft/test B flute corrugated board to a heavy-duty timber export packing case. In between these two very different package styles, there is a vast range available including varying grades of corrugated cartons, plywood and sheet material cases and timber packing cases where the timber thickness, size and style is constructed to suit the purpose.
Inner packaging needs to complement outer packaging in order to maximise product protection. The inner materials can be used to secure a product, to protect surfaces and to prevent damage from moisture and climatic conditions. There are many types available including, for example:
