Rosewood Wins Gold at Starpack Awards!
The category entered was Transit – Business to Consumer and Rosewood’s winning design was a bottle presentation suspension pack. Our award was presented by Michael Hoban, UK Sales Director, Alcan Packaging and accepted by John Lord, Group Sales Director and Gary Wright. Gary is based at the company’s Cumbernauld site where he produced the winning pack design.
The award has particular significance for Rosewood as this is the first time that the company has entered the prestigious annual awards scheme. The judges’ comment about our entry was, “The clever use of two ‘z’ folded B fluted corrugated board inserts provide lateral shock absorbance and support for the product. The value engineered competent pack survived many drop tests to ensure that the product was not compromised.”
John Lord said, “Rosewood’s core strength lies in the skills and ability of our expert design team. It is an honour to have achieved a Gold Starpack Industry Award that both recognises and rewards our ability to produce bespoke, cost effective and environmentally aware packaging solutions.”
Our pack design addressed key packaging industry aims to reduce waste and landfill. It was designed to suspend either a bottle or a bottle within a promotional tin, inside a die-cut outer carton, for national & overseas distribution by land courier or air.
Gary explained, “I combined the natural, cushioning properties of single wall, brown kraft/test BC flute corrugated board with a simple, yet effective single pack solution for multiple sized, high value products. No additional cushioning materials or sealants such as glue or staples are required, saving both on material volume and costs.”
The previous pack design featured a pre-moulded, polystyrene interior fitment which made the pack unit cost more expensive, bulky to break up and dispose of and, being oil based, it was not environmentally friendly. Rosewood’s pack collapses flat after use and is 100% recyclable.
With an emphasis on design and marketing performance this year, the Starpack Industry Awards attracted 321 entries this year, compared to 297 in 2007. They were judged by a knowledgeable panel drawn from retailers, brand owners, designers and industry professionals.
