Case Study 2

1. Customer Brief
Rosewood was commissioned to perform a design review for a corrugated cling film dispenser pack for the catering industry. The original box weakened and disintegrated quickly when used frequently and as a result, the cling film became difficult to dispense. The original box was often discarded before the material was fully used. This left the remainder of the material on the roll to be manually dispensed where it was vulnerable to damage and contamination.

2. Rosewood’s Solution
Rosewood redesigned the lid of the box so that it had a shaped opening that cut into just half of the previous lid area. This meant that the corrugated exterior remained intact for a far greater period. The size of the box was reduced to increase the overall stability of the pack. Furthermore, as the size of the roll decreased with use, it was held firmly inside the box for easy dispensing.

The key benefits of the redesign were:

  •  The box remained sturdy and did not disintegrate or tear as a result of use.
  • The cling film did not require handling and was easier and therefore quicker to dispense,   whatever amount remained on the roll.
  • Unit cost savings from producing a smaller box and reducing the required volume of corrugated board.
  • Overall cost savings were achieved through reduction in wasted cling film
