Case Study 1
1. Customer Brief
A packaging design review was commissioned for component parts of a photocopier. The aim of the review was to:
Redesign the package to help improve stock control.
Make the packaging easier to assemble, thus reducing customer labour and associated costs.
Reduce the unit cost of the packaging materials used.
2. Rosewood’s Solution
We changed the way in which the photocopier components were secured by redesigning the internal packaging. 3 pieces of internal dunnage were replaced by one die-cut piece and two other internal dunnage pieces were replaced by one die-cut part. The result was a superior protective package. In addition, component parts were printed with an identifying stock number. Our customer benefited from:
An approximate annual saving of £40,000.
Direct savings from a reduction of the shop-floor packaging time because the carton comprised of less parts than the original.
Improved stock control due to a more compact storage area and a reduction in packaging constituents.
Savings in freight costs owing to the lighter weight cardboard packaging.
Printed packs for easy identification and to assist stock control.
